Wilbert Gentry,
Jr.
Apr 1, 1955 — Jan 1, 2025
Wilbert Gentry, Jr., also known as "Hump", was born April 1, 1955 to Wilbert and Lydia Gentry in Eudora, Arkansas. God in his infinite wisdom called him home on January 1, 2025.
Wilbert attended Eudora Public Schools where he received his high school diploma graduating with the class of 1973. He played basketball under Coach Tolliver. He also played on a softball team called 65 South. After graduating "Hump" went on to the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He went with the intention of becoming a coach or a physical education teacher because of his love for sports. However, he was able to complete only two years of college.
Wilbert had numerous jobs along the way. He worked at the Eudora Garment Factory, S.E.A.T. Transportation, and the Detention Center. Wilbert was also employed at the Dermott Detention Center "Rite of Passage" as a night coach counselor. Wilbert had compassion for the students that he was counseling. He assisted them by helping them with their situations. This was a responsibility that he took seriously. Wilbert wanted them to be better so that they would be able to go home to their families. He tried to persuade them with incentives to push them forward and towards their goals.
Wilbert was a family-oriented man. He was also a loving and giving person in any capacity that he could. Hump had a heart of gold. Hump also had the utmost love for his friends that he hung out with at Tilford's Place.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert Gentry, Sr. and Lydia Gentry, one brother Cleveland Gentry, Sr., two sisters Wilma Gentry and Terri Ann Gentry.
Wilbert leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted life's partner Linda Cain; one son Wilbert (Kenia) Gentry III of Bolch Springs, TX; three daughters: Tracy Gentry and Artavia Cain both of Eudora, AR and Jalisa Garner of Pine Bluff, AR, and one adopted daughter Miriyah Jones of Eudora, AR; three sisters: Sharon Washington, Wynette (Lonnie) Gentry, and Valarie Gentry; seven brothers: Aaron (Debbie) Gentry and Gregory Jones both of Eudora, AR, Roderick (Valarie) Gentry of Greenville, MS, Carl Waters and Russell Gentry both of St. Paul, MN, Frenchie Lane of Saginaw, MI, and Larry Jo (Kenita) Jenkins of Dallas, TX; one aunt Berna Thomas of Eudora, AR; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Ministers Institute in Eudora, AR with Reverend David L. Green, Sr. officiating. Interment was at the Mason Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Marcello Washington, Cameron Thomas, Montrell Allen, Jamaudre Gentry, Lazavion Gentry, Tommy Williams, Damien Smiley, Chacondy Thomas, Adrian Stewart, Justin Sterart, and Brandon Stubbs.
