Obituary

Jessie Baker Morris was born the first child of the late Rosena Littleton Baker and Simuel Baker, Sr. on August 18, 1926 in Eudora, Arkansas. Jessie transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Jessie graduated from East St. Louis High School in 1944 in St Louis, Missouri. Jessie continued her education at Arkansas AM&N College, now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she received her degree in Home Economics.

As a child, Jessie confessed a hope in Christ and lived a life in service to her Lord. Jessie was a member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church until she moved away. Jessie was a member of The Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church for 67 years, under the leadership of Pastor E. Theophilus Caviness. She worked in several Mission Departments, including Nannie Helen Burrough Circle, Martha Circle and Ruth Circle until her health begin to fail. After moving back to Eudora, she reunited with her home church Zion Chapel M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Glenn Donald, where she was faithful member until death.

Jessie worked various jobs throughout her life, including Revco/Eckerd/CVS Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Tech. Jessie also worked at local Senior Citizen Centers where she taught arts and crafts after retiring from her Pharmacy Tech career. Jessie enjoyed many crafts, such as sewing, jewelry-making, being a photographer, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Jessie was a sports fanatic and you could often find her watching her favorite team. Jessie was a loving and devoted wife, aunt, sister, friend to many.

Jessie married the love of her life, the late Bert Morris, Jr. on July 10, 1961. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; her parents Rosena and Simuel Baker Sr; her brother Samuel Baker, Jr., and her sister Mable Allen.

Jessie leaves to cherish her memories: her nieces – Claudia (Robert) Avery of Monticello, AR, Monalisa Alexander, Danita Turner and Sherri Reggans of Eudora, AR Sacajawea (Robert) Irving of Elkhart, IN Brenda (Alvin) Tucker of Chicago, IL, Denise Baker of Fredericksburg, VA, Brenda Alexander of Conway, AR; nephews Odis Alexander of Eudora, AR, Michael Anderson of Tampa, FL, and John Alexander of Conway, AR. She also leaves to cherish her memories, her great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, the Zion Chapel Church Family, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Eudora with Pastor Glenn Donald officiating. Interment was in the Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were FiZavian Reggans, Wesley Duhart, Terrance Allen, Lamont Allen, Jermey Hill, Kevon Wilkes, Thomas Versey, and Adria Townsend.

Horary pallbearers were Robert Avery, John Alexander, Odis Alexander, Micheal Anderson, FiSamuel Reggans, Adric Geddins.
